Snow in the UK - Feb 2009 - have you bought snow chains?

Just wondered if anyone had bought snow chains for the cold snap we are having and which ones did you buy? Have you used them?

Snow socks would be a better idea, however I just worked from home, the GP with Dunlop runflats isn't a very good snowmobile.

The official MINI snow socks - are they any good? £50 ish from dealer, is it worth it? can you use them on the normal road surfaces aswell? as i believe snow chains can only be used on snow covered roads and then when no snow you have to take them straight off again.
