I just noticed this week that my run flats (Dunlops), upon which I have fewer than 10,000 miles, are down to the belts (just the fronts, of course - the rears are fine). The dealer quoted $350/tire to replace. It boggles the mind that a run flat tire could get 1/3 the mileage for triple the price! I called The Tire Rack and spoke with a rep for about an hour about whether or not I need to stick with Run Flats. At the end of the call, I purchased 4 new NON-run flats (Bridgestone "Go 19 Grid" tires). As noted above, the only suggestion was to either tote a spare and a jack, or carry a repair kit. The FOUR regular tires were $402, and I was assured the ride and noise would be drastically better (as noted elsewhere in this string). - can't vouch for MOT across the pond, but for the sake of ride, noise and economics, this seemed to be the only reasonably sane alternative. Paying $700 every 10k miles for two new tires would've been completely ludicrous. This isn't an Aston Martin, for God's sake!

Sadly the technology is still very expensive. However, there are some cheaper run-flats out there. That being said, my summers are regular tires and the ride and noise is much better. You are going to love them.

Yes you can

I have been running R112s on a GP and had Bridgestone Blizack winter tryes fitted, they are non RF. Fantastic winter grip.

just to let you know if the car (any car) doesnt have a sparewheel during the mot it will not fail. If however you have a spare which is in need of upgrading shall we say and is in the car during mot then the car will fail.
