Pure Silver Run Flats vs Normal Tyres

Hi,

Would like some advice as to what tyres are better for my Mini Cooper....

At the moment i have run flat tyres and already had to change 1 of them at a hefty cost coz it was damaged (had the car a month and still in debates with the garage whether it happened when i had my alloys changed a week after i got it)

Ive read in a few posts that people are getting twice as much use out of normal tyres than run flats and the prices are cheaper too....

Also whats the deal about spare tyres if i was to have normal tyres on Mini... presumably i'd need to have 1 on board?

Thanks guys

Nope, no need to have one on board, but you will want to carry a tire repair kit. This generally consists of a bottle of slime and a pump. Get a flat, you inject the slime and then pump it up.

it wont fail as long as you have some sort of temporary tyre fixing kit.

Mini sell one themselves called a MINI Mobility Kit, which I have and touch wood, have never needed to use it yet.

It is on the Mini.co.uk site and iir costs around £70.

The only thing this doesn't help with is blowouts.

The only time that driving without some sort of spare wheel or fixing kit is illegal is if you are on the Motorway.
Driving on normal A & B roads you do not require any form of spare or fixing kit, it is probably just advisable.

My MINI has non runflats and is going in for MOT on Wednesday. Im sure there will be no questions about it, but I will let you know if there are.

I am aware that there is no requirement to have a spare wheel, or mobility kit for the MOT. But I did not know that a spare was required on a Motorway. What is your source of this info?

And it will pass as mine did For may own peace of mind I do carry tyre weld and a small compressor but it's of no concern for a MOT.

I recently switched from Runflats (and I had the latest spec and reportedly best runflat Dunlops) to non-runflats, and aside from the cost, the biggest improvement is in ride quality - it is so much better! Go for it!
