England Runflats off, standard on, but what size 18's?

The time has come for the runflat's to go and new 'normal' tyres to be fitted. My current tyres are Bridgestone RE056's, 205/40/18.

Does anyone know the largest size tyre I can fit that won't rub or catch on the arch? My suspension is all currently standard.

I have used a clever little calculater tool to find what sizes would be acceptable as far as circumference goes (Tyre Size Calculator).

This shows that 215/40/18 would add 8mm; 215/35/18 would reduce by 13mm; and 225/35/18 would reduce by 6mm. The 225's are my prefered choice, all I want to know is if these will catch or rub anywhere.

Anyone any ideas please?

Taken the plunge now, 215/40-18's fitted. NON RUN FLATS. My only problem now is that I am kicking myself..........

Have done 500 miles on these now and wish I had of fitted them so much earlier. Can now drive around and hit a small pothole without getting a broken back!

What finally made me change you ask...........

I had to meet the BMW technical manager to discuss the state of my rims and he agreed to change them under warranty. When I told him of my concerns with runflats, he told me,

"With my BMW hat on I have to advise you to refit the standard equipment, ie. Bridgestone runflats".

"Without my BMW hat on, a number of people have fitted standard tyres onto their Mini and have expressed a considerable increase in ride comfort without loss of handling or performance".

I ordered 4 new non-runflat tyres; took them to the Mini garage; they fitted them on 4 new rims; I took my Mini in and they fitted the new rims to the car.

WISH I HAD OF DONE IT SO MUCH SOONER!!!!
