Kumho Solus KH16

Hi, I know you guys must get a million of these threads a day, but I just want to know if these tires would be OK for this car.

I've done a lot reading to figure out what tires would work, and these seem to be good, but I just wanted to confirm.

I would put a link, but it looks like they won't let me put links here. I saw them on tirerack. They are 205/50/16

I have a 2005 Cooper S. I need new tires on it pretty badly, and I just want an inexpensive set of tires, that would last a decent amount of time. And these seem to fit the bill. They have decent reviews. I just want to make sure that I wouldn't run into any issues have a tire place install these, and no issues with them afterwards.

I know that the speedo and odometers would be off by a little bit, but other than, are there any issues I should look out for with these specific tires?

I drove pretty hard on the set I have now, but that's going to stop. I don't feel like putting on a new set of tires every 20k miles.

Thanks in advance for any help here.

OEM tires for the MCS have a V speed rating and the tires you're considering are only H rated.

Tire Rack:
205/50-16 Goodyear Eagle GT = $82 each (after $20 mail-in rebate)
205/50-16 Kumho ECSTA ASX = $75 each

Yeah, I saw the speed rating, but does it really matter? I'm not going to be driving more than 90MPH anyways.

But if the users here would not recommend doing this I'll stay away from these tires. I just want to be clear on the reasons to stay away from them.

Thanks.

Personally I think that they would be fine. They are going to have a bit harder compound, but should be fine for city and highway driving. Perhaps not as great for spirited driving but it really depends on what you are looking for.

I have the old non-runflat ECSTAs and love them but I am contemplating a nice all season for the next set. My winters are now cooked so I will need something soon.

I think that I'm going to go with these tires unless somewhere here thinks that I'm putting my safety at risk with them, or that they wouldn't fit or something like that. I will probably be ordering them in the next few hours.

They are the proper size so safety is not at risk. Just remember that your tires are all season mid range and don't drive your car like you are on summers high performance and you should be ok.

I have Khumo Solus KH15 on my MINI and in the wet they are terrible. It very easy to loose the rear of the car and some bad understeer in the wet.

Dry these tyres are ok, Wet they are terrible.

In the UK having the wrong speed rated tyres can invalidate your insurance.....
