Burning rubber smell not good!

Hi guys,

Quick question. Yesterday i smelt a funny smell coming from my car (03 cooper s) when windows were down, like burning rubber (not good). Then this morning the yellow warning light came on advising me of flat tyre/tyre pressure.

On the drive home the smell got increasingly stronger and the steering began to wobble very slightly (also never a good sign) and when i checked the tyres the front right was roasting hot, could feel the heat and the alloy was black compared to the others.

Now obviously il be calling the garage first thing tom but i wondered if anyone had any ideas what could be wrong? I changed the tyre pressure about six weeks ago, just topped up so it shouldnt be that, was thinkin it might be the calipers or something rubbing causing the excessive heat etc.

Answers on a postcard

Cheers, Pete

i'll go with a sticky piston in a caliper. Happened on the right rear of my car. Strip calipers down and chuck a load of copper slip on the sliders. See if that work's. Sorted my problem out.
You might find one side of the pad is worn alot more than other side.
