United-States Run flats - how often have you had to replace them?

Hi All,
I'm new, just got an 2010 pepper white S! It has run flat tires, the dealer offered me insurance for the tires... saying that they pick up nails easily and get damaged easily by pot holes and will likely need to be replaced before the tread wears out for the previously mentioned reason. The cost is $1000 U.S. no deductible and unlimited replacement for 5 years.

So my question is, for those of you that have run flats, this is my first car with run flats, how often have pot holes or nails caused you to replace yours?

thanks

Never! If the warranty covers wear, which I doubt, then go for it. Otherwise I wouldn't bother. Ive done over 80,000 miles on runflats too.

Instead you would be better off monitoring the wear pattern to detect incorrect inflation and tracking that has caused plenty of my tyres to have a premature lifespan.

Wow, the things they think of to sell more insurance!

Not once over 45,000 miles and 3 years on the current MINI. These tyres are no more likely to get damaged than regular tyres. I would expect that the dealer is probably making as much out of selling that insurance policy as he is out of selling the car! Don't touch that policy with a bargepole, is my advice

Agree, it sounds like an expensive waste.

I took it on my MCS Camden, only as I got a puncture in both rears in a matter of days on my Coop that nobody would repair!

Cost in the UK was £199 for 5 tyres in a 3 year period...well worth it IMO not at $1,000 tho!!!
