Recommended 16" budget tyres My Dunlop runflats are reaching the end of their life after 25k miles and I'm a little fed up of driving over pot hots and feeling like someone's kicked me! Can someone recommend a decent non runflat budget tyre sized at 195 55 H 16"?? I've heard good things about Toyo Proxes and would appreciate advice. Ideally I want an all season tyre and I'm a little worrid the Toyo's are only suitable as summer tyres. Let me know your thoughts. Also recommendations of where to purchase cheaply would be ace too - I'm happy to go Internet / mail order. Finally is there anything else I should do before switching to run flats?? For example should I get the wheels aligned? Thanks for your help. Sean BTW (I'm not too concerned about getting a flat, as when I ordered my Mini by mistake they fitted the space saver spare wheel, which allthough has cost me weight over the past 3 years, should reap benefits when I switch to non run-on-flat!) |

| I've recently just replaced the tyres on my Dooper with some Hankook Optimo 4S H730. They are all season tyres, and got a good review in Auto Bild. Before fitting them I was having a lot of ABS action in the recent wintery conditions, no such problems now. Though that is partly down to the fact the Dunlops were low on tread. As far as I am concerned, they are a great improvment, a better, quieter ride, good in the snow and cheap. They were not widely available in the UK, but I did find one supplier: mytyres.co.uk who could supply in about 4 days. (One firm quoted 4 months!). I definitely recommend. As for runflats, i decided to ditch them because the price is not worth it. As far as I am aware if you get a puncture the tyre centres cant/wont reapir them, so that means buying new again; whereas if you get a puncture on normal tyres you may be able to repair it depending on the location and severity. All you have to do is make it back home or to the garage, and that is where a £10 can of tyre sealant comes in. |

| I'd advise getting the best tyres you can afford. They're only a few pounds more, last a lot longer and stop a lot faster. No point skimping on what keeps you on the road! ![]() The Original MINI One Seven Yorkshire MINI Register - PM for details |
