Hi all

I currently have *Dunlop SP Sport 01 Runflat 205/45/R17 on my 2009 convertible but have found that when I go over potholes the rude is v harsh and tge steering veers quite a bit! Can anyone recommend a better alternative runflat?

I think many if u say ditch runflat and get the aerosol kit as the ride is always harsher and the sidewalls can be hit easily? (kerbing has bulged mine already) but i'd still be interested in a run flat as well as a non runflat option! Cheers guys!

Any run flat will be harsh as the sidewalls are stiff so they don't collapse when running with zero air pressure.

If you go with a conventional tire you can fit 215/45-17 tires which will give you a wider and taller tire for added curbing and pothole protection.

There is only one run flat that I would ever consider and that's the Avon ZZ3 runflat:

If you are running anything over 16" diameter your MINI will retain a fairly harsh ride no matter what tyres you fit. However, if you want to retain large wheels and stop it from veering all over the place, the only fix would be to brace the, rather wobbly, body shell on the convertible properly.

Go to:

GT TUNING PERFORMANCE Brakes/Suspensions etc

And ask Roland to sort it out for you! Don't bother with anything less; it won't work and you'll spend your money on ornamental tat!

Thanks Tigg! Do u know a reputable company who stocks and installs the Avons?

Cheers for the recommendation on the strengthening - I've been to the site, what is the official term for the process? (was trying to work out cost - Esp as I'll need to go to Dorset!) would it invalidate the warranty having such a thing done? I must admit convertibles rattle so much it can be a little irritating!! Cheers again for all your advice - u have been really helpful!

There are two ways to go about getting the Avons, either:

1. Contact Avon direct on 01225 703 101 and ask for the name of a local dealer who will stock and fit them for you, or...

2. Contact Camskill - AVON TYRES / CAR / AVON ZZ3 AVON ZZ 3 - 205/45RF17 84V RFT TL :: £99.47 :: Car Tyres - MPV Tyres - People Carrier Tyres - 17" :: R17" - 205/45/17, 205/45 RF 17 Runflat :: and ask them for stock availability. Get them to post them to you and pay your local tyre fitter to fit them (expect around £12-15 a tyre inclusive).

Above all, be sure that they supply you with the RUNFLAT version of the tyre - distinguishable by the "84V" load rating, not the "88W" version which is the non runflat version.

As for the strengthening process, this will simply involve bolting strengthening members in the engine bay "top brace" and on to the under side of the car. It can be completed in 20-30 minutes. You will need to inform your insurance company who are likely to charge a small additional premium, which is highly ironic as your car will be much safer as a result of having them fitted. It will also rattle much less too! It will not effect your warranty.

They are so easy to fit that you may choose to get them posted to you and fitted locally.

Please speak to Roland on the number on the site that I linked to; he will be able to tell you more.

Glad to help
