Front Brake Repair by Dealer - Thoughts on Price?

Took my Mini Cooper 2007 in for a repair this morning, I had a grinding noise coming from the back wheel well. I had hoped it was my bearing as that would be covered by my warranty, turns out it was my front brakes (????) despite the noise clearly coming from the back (myself and two other passengers all heard the noise in the back!).

Anyway, Mini dealership replaced the front brakes, much to my horror it was nearly $500 after taxes). The sound is gone, so it was clearly the front brakes. I was hoping you guys could let me know if I got fleeced at all here.

The key question for me here is why the heck did they replace an item descibed as "BRAKE DISC. VENTILA" @ $78/each x 2, and $127 labour seems like A LOT for such a simple job.

Thoughts?

Appears to be the going rate at the dealer. Did they replace the pads on both front wheels?

If that is an hours labour, as thats all it would take to change the pads and discs on a new mini. Its not rocket science and the bolts will be new enough not to be rotten yet.

This sounds ok to me for discs and pads from a dealer.

I'd say that's about right for the dealer prices

Just thank god youre not an Aston Martin owner, when they renew the brake pads on those they put on brand new calipers too and throw the old ones away.
Costs around 4 grand each time.

In future consider doing jobs like this yourself if your concerned about price. You'll save a fortune and have the smug satisfaction the greedy dealers are missing out.
I swapped ALL my discs and pads (including 3 new piston seals and rubber boot things) for about £150
I used Juratek discs after reading up on a few makes and they are great, done a few thousand miles now too. Used Mintex standard pads.
