2003 S, Broken Parking Brake Cable

Hi guys,
Sorry if this has been covered before but I tried searching and couldn't find any relevant info.
My parking brake cable has eroded and snapped on the passenger side where the cable meets the caliper. I've looked up the cable and they're pretty inexpensive but I was wondering if anyone has any experience repairing this on their own? Is it something that I could do myself or is taking it to the dealer my best bet? Unfortunately money is a concern and I'd prefer to do it myself if possible.
Thanks!
Eric

Yes its something you can do, but you need a little mechanical know how and the relevant tools of course.
You need a special tool no. 34 6 330 to remove the cable outer sleeve from the bodywork under the rear as its clipped by a form of collet, although you can knock up something that will do the job just as good if youre handy.
Its brake related so if you are at all unsure of your abilities then you should/ought to let a garage do the task for you.
Also if one side has corroded through and snapped, check the other side thoroughly too has that might not have long to go either, although the passenger side is the one that gets all the filth from the gutter so would probably be worse.
