Run flats to non run flats cooper s

Hi guys,
I currently own a 54 plate cooper s with 17in alloys fitted with Dunlop sp sport 01 205/45 r17 run flats. As two of them are now in need of replacement I want to change to non run flats.
I have done loads of searches but cannon find the information I am after.

I am considering avon zz3 in a 215/40 83y. The reason for this is they seem to be one of the only tyres of that size and 205/45s that are not extra load rated. This is important as the reason I want to change is for all round ride comfort so being an XL tyre I gather they must be re-enforced which would make them harder and ruin the point of changing them.

Please could someone help me as to weather my fears are justified regarding XL tyre, weather it's ok to fit 215 to a 7j (I think) wheel and if you have tried the zz3s? I know there is a thread regarding this but there are no answers in regards to my exact tyre size.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm in the same position!

I have an 06 plate Mini Cooper Chili Pack, it has 205/45/17 run flats currently. The back tyres are worn and need replacing. I hate the run flats all bumpy, hard and slippy on the road eeew!

I want standard tyres - general advice seems to be that I need to swap to 215/40/17 if switching to standard tyres but not had that confirmed or not on here yet.

Really need to get these tyres sorted soon as my current ones are beginning to resemble racing slicks...not good at all!!

Let me know if you have joy finding advice!

Sorry I can't be any help

You should have no problems running 215/40-17 tires on your MINI, but keep in mind that these will provide less sidewall protection against pot holes than a 205/45-17 fitment. Depending on wheel offset and suspension set-up you could also run 215/45-17 tires.

Switching to conventional tires means you'll have to carry a compressor and tire sealant to deal with tire punctures.

Thanks for this Caveman. I am not clued up with these things. So I swap to standard tyres am I better off just sticking to the same size then?

I've never dealt with rubbish run flats before

Sticking with the stock fitment eliminates the need to consider wheel offset and suspension set-up. If you're running OEM wheels and stock suspension you can go with a 215 width tire, a fitment which may offer more tire choices within your budget.

if you're changing to normal tyres all 4 need to be changed,as runflats have a different handling characteristic to normals..
