Constant brake squeal (no braking)

Hi Everyone:
Two weeks ago I changed out the rear brake pads on my R53 (2005 S) with generic pads. Immediately the rear brakes started squealing while driving, without the brakes applied. I could temporarily stop the squealing by applying the brake or the emergency brake.
About 10 days later, I was convinced that the generic pads were to blame, so I replaced the brake pads with genuine MINI parts. Now the problem is worse and non-stop. I can make the squeal worse by aggressive cornering or hitting a low or high spot in the road. I can still solve the problem temporarily by applying the brake; but only for a few seconds.
Could my rotors need changing (both rears contain a lip on the very outside edge; normal?)? Could my calipers need lubing? Or, is it that the pads need to wear in?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!

When you fit new pads it always helps bedding them in if you roughen up the disc glazed friction surface with a bit of emery cloth.
There are areas on the back of the pads they tell you to apply a little anti squeal grease too such as copperslip

And...

Thanks for the reply. I will try that.
I should also have mentioned that my fuel efficiency has plummeted by almost 20% since installing the new pads. I notice that when I push the car around in the garage, I can hear BOTH brakes scraping. Will this go away? Will my fuel efficiency come back once the pads are worn in?

sounds like the handbrake adjusters were not slackened off. How much travel on your hand brake now?
