United-Kingdom Grooved & Drilled

Hi I am thinking of replacing the front discs on my R56 Cooper and saw these on ebay.....
MINI One Cooper, Cooper s FRONT & REAR Drilled/Grooved Brake Discs & BREMBO Pads | eBay
..... it looked like a good deal, front/rears/brembo pads...has anyone upgraded to drilled & grooved with standard road pads and if so did you notice a difference in braking efficiency?

Cheers
Steve

wouldn't have drilled discs, known to many friends who fitted this type only having to replace them because of cracking around the holes..
Here's an example of what i mean.

Strange because the normal cure to stop cracks propagating is to drill a hole.

That's true , but compared to a piece of metal with no hole then its weaker.

I recently installed grooved & dimpled EBC front rotors & red stuff pads. Was very easy to do & the stopping power is much better, a lot less dust & no rust. Win Win Win. Did it all for about £180

I fitted them about 2years ago... My mechanic says they're the best disks he's seen in a while and much better braking action than standard mini brakes. Haven't had any problems with cracking but I don't drive very hard.

The cracking happens to the cheaper discs to be fair.
If you want to improve your braking, I'd stick with solid discs but get decent pads.
If you are going on track days and need less fading, you need to invest in more expensive drilled or grooved discs.
Cheap discs will crack whether they are solid or drilled!

You will not notice any difference with drilled n grooved discs on the road as you wont get them hot enough

It will just look COOL

All the drilled n groove bits are doing is reducing the brake disc temp and wont provide better stopping distance or feel

They will just reduce faded if your tracking/racing your MINI

Just get better pads and save your monies

Many drilled discs fail... I would avoid them on a road car.

I am running Nitrac 12 groove discs front and rear, they came to £350ish with the MT discount. Quality pieces of kit and work well on track.

I can recommend performance friction pads for the front, they perform well and give off hardly any dust what so ever so much easier to keep your wheels clean.

If you want to really push the boat out get some Braided stainless steel brake lines, roughly £50 for front and rear from HEL and some decent fluid like Motul 660 or castrol SRF.

If you just want to have fun on the road, the stock setup is fine

ive got the ebc grooved and dimpled rotors (vented front, solid rears) with green stuff pads and going down long steep hills you can really feel them gripping with instead stopping when you slam your brake pedal to the floor but the low dust claim is a lie, in a week my rims are just black
