Will these be ok?

Hi, im new to this forum and also new to the Mini Cooper S. I've recently bought a '53 Cooper S (an R53 I believe ). The front tyres are nearing replacement and I hastily purchased a pair of 205/40 17 tyres to go on the front. The current tyres are 205/45's I didn't realise until it was too late as I bought them second hand with 8mm of tread. My question is, is it safe to run with these tyres on?
If not, does anyone want to buy a pair of tyres 😊....
Any help would be appreciated guys...
Thanks
Scott

The overall diameter is smaller than the 45 profile, your speedo will read fast if you fit them to the front

The 205x45 are 617mm diameter and do 831 turns per mile
The 205x40 are 597mm diameter and do 860 turns per mile

Also Im not sure if running 2 different sizes of tyre one pair on one axle and the other pair on the other axle whether or not it will muck up the ABS and tyre pressure sensing, as they work off the wheel revs?

Thanks for that, a little food for thought I think. Maybe better getting rid of the tyres then 😕
