S Spoke Tyres

Hi,

Can anybody provide me with the answer to the following two questions...

1) Which Pirreli tyre is fitted to the 17" S-Spoke wheel
(full spec required, eg. 205/55R17 or whatever ?
2) Is is legal to ride with 4 non-runflat tyres ?

Cheers,
EB MINI

No problem to drive with 4 runflats. In fact it is not an MOT requirement to have a spare wheel. The only reason they check for a spare wheel during MOT test is to make sure it is secure in the car and won't fall off...

He means 4 non runflats.

Lots of people do, I'm even considering it; I'm not a big fan of the runflats. Have a look in the wheels and tyres forum.

Yes, I meant 4 non-runflat tyres, the kind you find on most normal cars and not the runflat tyres MINI provide us with.

I found a great site that shows you the tyre tread design and they are all really low prices. All I need to know is whether a MINI garage would fit them for me at no or low cost ??

Anybody ?

My 17's feel fine with Pirelli run flat but saying that I've not driven my Mini on normal tyres yet so the difference may be amazing!

It does feel okay though and I've driven it quite hard a fair few times.

Might give normals a go when these are worn though.

As soon as my fronts are due for changing, I'm going for non-runflats, I'm hopefully going to save a substantial amount of money, plus the weight loss advantage.

It's gota be non-runflats really hasn't it.

But one question that nobody has answered yet is whether I can buy my tyres from a supplier and then take my wheels and tyres along to a local kwick fit for fitting ?

I've never gotten into tyres and wheels before.

I don't imagine they would fancy fitting tyres you have bought from one of their competitors, honestly !

Might be better to try to do a deal with a local supplier !

Is the tyre pressure monitor unaffected if you fit ordinary tyres.

When your tyres need changing or when you decide to go for non runflats just take them to any reputable tyre dealer, he will be only too happy to change them for you.
Be cheaper than a MINI garage as well i would have thought.

I now have 4 non run flat tyres and carry a can of tyre fix, i don't have a spare, the can is handily tucked away inside the removable panel in the boot, i wrapped it up in foam to avoid rattles, works for me.

The tyre sensor will be unaffected as it only senses a change in pressure at any given wheel.

Does 215/40 17" fit? it will right?

Right now I'm having 205/45 17" (SP sport 9000) and I think it's not wide enough, I need wider tire and lower profile..

does anybody have a pic from back and side view (closeup)?

The tyre pressure gauge will not be effected by fitting different wheels or tyres as is is all based on monitoring the revolving speed of each wheel. This will change in the event of low or high pressure.

It can also be callibrated from the button inside the car at any time.
