Hi I've just bought a new mini from a Honda dealer(cooper 09 on 17" 8 spoke ) and notice that only one of the tyres is run flat (front off side) Is this this safe/ legal? Matched pair on rear are Fulway HP108 and near side front is Infinity inf. 06.
New member here (and new to mini) so any help would really be appreciated
You will always be advised to run matched pairs of tyres on the same axle irrespective of them being runflats or not.
Most mini enthusiasts change from run flats to normal non-runflat tyres as soon as possible especially on the cooper S as this usually improves the road holding and handling. Of course you will need to make some provision for puncture repair if you are not able to carry a 'spacesaver spare'. This can consist of a can of 'tyre weld' and an electric pump. If this won't work at the roadside (because the punture is too big), you are probably going to have to call out one of the breakdown services to put a temporary plug in the tyre it anyway, or recover the vehicle for you.
Runflat tyres have thicker and heavier sidewalls than non-runflats so having one of each type on the front axle is likely to introduces some steering and cornering issues.
Depending on the relationship you have with the (Honda) dealer you bought it from you could try taking it back and asking them to change one of the front tyres so that they are both the same on the grounds that it is 'unsafe' or 'inadvisable' to drive the car in its present state and they should have sorted it before selling it to you.
Thanks for the info - will give Honda a try though looking at the reviews for the other front tyre (infinity 05) I'd probably prefer to change them both. Ride is noisy and firm so hopefully it might help
