Offline | I just had Goodyear F1 GS-D3 225/45-17 tires mounted on my MCS with the factory 17" R90 Wheels and 0.6" dropped H&R springs. They drive, handle, ride, and grip fantastic! Needed a little dremel work on the inside of the rear wheel well liners. Still slight rubbing only in the rear on really big bumps, but nothing serious. Setup is much more neutral now than with the runflats. Love 'em! Pete ![]() |

| MINI2 Regular | car looks really tight! i have one question. my mcs is dropped 1.0 f, and 1.2 for the back. i want to add 215/45 17 on my stock 17" s-lites. can it be done? will the tire rub at the wheel axel? i know there's room between fender and wheel, my concern is the inner part. |

Offline | Goodyear F1's from Behind They definitely widen the stance from stock. I'll post a better picture as soon as my MCS comes back from getting the BMP Aux Gauges and Cold Air Intake installed. |

Offline | Southernsun, I have 215/45-R17 Michelin Pilot Sport on 38 offset BBS RG-R wheels with a stock suspension. They do not rub, but if I were to lower the car they would!!!! The rear has minimal clearance to a point that if I were to push the car, the tire diflection might rub the inside of the outer fender wall. I haven't gotten to the limit, yet only 820 miles on the car. You will need an offset of of at least 42 to avoid rubbing altogether. BTW, why put on 215/45?? I did it for pothole protection in NJ and I'll be getting the JCW kit, so power won't be an issue. Regards, Boris |

| MINI2 Regular | boris, why the 215/45? same reason, the potholes. and also that the ride is lower, i though a little more rubber will protect the wheel. meaning, 215 is just a little higher than the 205 profile. yes, my car is lower, but i don't think it will rub at the inside of the outer fender well. my concern is the wheel axel, or anything in that area that being a wider tyre. |

Offline | Re: 225/45-17 F1 GS-D3 & 17" R90's What exactly did you drim with the dremel... Did you just cut the inner wheel well liner? how did you seal the liner and sheet metal so that water will not spray onto the backside of the rocker pannel? I have 215/45 17 snows on now with no rubbing whatsoever but I fear that when I install my H&R springs some triming may be necessary. So any ideas would help! |

Offline | Southernsun, Potholes, uneven pavement, etc. My previous car had a race tuned suspension. Sort of a skateboard like ride. The new mini is not a race car, just occational autocrosser, so comfort becomes a factor in any performance upgrade I do. Besides, sticky wider tires will outperform a spring change in the mini. The only reason to lower w/o tire change is for looks. I went the other route by enlarging the wheel diameter. -Boris |

| MINI2 Regular | Boris i understand what u mean. yeah, the pirelli's and eibachs work well. but i would like a nice heafty well made tyre. i was told not to change the run flats cuz of the fact they are run flats! but i want a normal tyre with good performance as well. i had a 2000 civic Si, with a real slammed suspension *3 1/2" drop!* but i'm very pleased with the eibachs now, agressive look witha very comfy ride. |

Offline | Southernsun, I finally uploaded a couple of pics into my gallery. Crappy shots and you really don't get the view of how tight the space between the tires and body panels really is, but its still a couple of pics. -Boris Link to Gallery |

Offline | slightly wider flares and wells Boris you suggest a 42 offset I would have to agree that that should solve the problem I have a 40 ofset kosei K1(215/45/17) and have not experienced any rubbing yet...it is very close...it must be DANGER close with 38 offset Do you know of a reasonably light wheel with a 42 offset most I have seen are 45,40,38 etc... Really what would solve everyones problem is if the wheel wells did not flare down... I have done a little research and none of the aftermarket kits are to my liking with the exception of Bryton (Cooper only). I will be intalling my summer tires/wheels when I put on the new H&R springs so Ill be fine I just need to solve this issue between now and next winter. I plan to use my mini on a few high speed road courses in the area THERE IS NO SUBSTITUE FOR A GOOD SUSPENSION IMHO ![]() |

| MINI2 Regular | Boris, thanks for the pics. i see what u mean. the tire is closer, i must agree. and your car really looks nice. i will decide soon what to do. as know the stock S lites are a 50 offset so i think i will be fine with the 215, we'll see. i did some spirited driving today and the tyres kinda concerned me. although the eibachs were working well, the pirelli's got me thinking. i know there are WAY better tyres out there. by the way, your car looks great! hope to put pics on soon also. |

Offline | Southernsun, I PM'ed you. As far as offset, the BBS RK's, OZ Chrono, Centerline RPM are offered in 42 offset. The OZ Superleggera in 18x7 is available in 42 offset. I checked my rear tires yesterday and they are even with the outer wall of my fender. Now I know that the suspension will camber the tires in on bump, but probably not enough to clear. The 42 should be fine. Regards, Boris |

| MINI2 Regular | Boris, i haven't recieved your pm. i don't even recieve email notifications for when i reply to a topic anymore! yes, the offsets seem to be from 38-43 for aftermarket wheels. i kinda like the way the stock S lites look with the 50 offset. especially with the car lowered. i think any where from a 44-50 offset is perfect for the mcs. although some offsets of 38-43 look great as well, like yours. thanks for sharing your info and advice in this post. if i make any new modifications *tyres, etc* i'll let u know. i think i will put the bonnet scoop mesh grill next. www.minicooperparts.com -seems to look pretty neat. if u have any questions as well, feel free to ask. |

Offline | I have the same size tyre on my GTI, and am thinking of getting them again for some aftermarket 17s when my MCS arrives. Now that you have had these tyres a while, can you post your thoughts on your experiences with them on your MINI. ![]() Cheers Liam http://www.mini2.com/forum/attachmen...chmentid=13773 |

Offline | hi, i drive a mini COOPER and wouldn.t a 215/45r17 be too LARGE for my car, and wont it rub too hard, and will the car handle sameways as before or will it handle worse .... I love the goodyear eagle gs d3, but they havent got them in the standard 205/45/r17 size ?? And the 215/45 ' s are cheaper then the standard size 205/45 here in Belgium. it seems that this (205/45r17) is an not so common tire size.... thx ![]() |
