So... here's my predicament, had my '06 mcs for 2 weeks or so... Lost a wheel nut from rear passenger side...had the small garage i purchased care from put a new one put on.. fast forward a week or so later lost another from same wheel, this time the locking nut ?! ...... the mechanic 'has never seen similar in 20 years'

Mechanic checked all other wheels and found locking nut on opposite wheel slightly loose and sorted it.

May have been an honest mistake..... but obviously i'm concerned somethings up with hubs/chassis or something.... anybody had similar issues ? ::smile::

Check the wheel bolts yourself, all the tools are in the boot. They should come to a definite stop as you fully tighten them. Hopefully your mechanic will have checked the bolt threads are not damaged.
Bolts do not come loose when tightened properly.
You can get new locking wheel bolts from Halfords.

Hi How do you know if they were tight to start with. Might have had a new tyre just before you bought it and may not have been tightened to torque. They also need checking after a few miles to make sure they are still tight, as sometimes the bolt may have relaxed and allow it to come undone.
On a different car I once had, I had a new tyre fitted and set off on holiday down the motorway and all 4 came loose. Lucky I felt the vibration and pulled over and tightened them back up.

Had a 2012 mini cooper 3months, knocking revealed a loose front passenger wheel nuts. Garage had fitted new alloys before sale. Problem recurred, local garage checked and tightened + changed 8 new bolts which I had. Road test revealed several loose wheel nuts (torque wrench). Suggested I go to alloy wheel specialist........any thoughts?

Stupid question, are they the correct bolts. My 2005 mini cooper has tapered type where some have a rounded under side.
I say this as I have changed my tyres to tubeless and have a space saver fitted under floor.
A local tyre place would not fit as told me would be unsafe as rounded bolts would not suit space saver but he was talking out of his behind as all my wheel bolts are of tapered type including anti theft ones.
Maybe Ozzie models differ as another owner also has tapered type
Same problem, firstly removed all new paint around the nuts, brought all new nuts, discarded all security bolts (less torque), brought a torque wrench set at 130, so far ok.
