Blue Cooper 215/40R17 Continental ContiExtremeContacts

so if I do my math correctly, MCS w/ sport stock tires are
24.263" in diameter... (for 205/45r17s)

so is there any reason why I would have a problem w/
215/40R17 Continental ContiExtremeContacts?

they are a bit wider... and a bit shallower, so more road noise... but they aren't runflats, so they'll be quieter and have better ride than normal...

that small 205->215 width change won't cause problems will it?

it seems that these tires are pretty much the best A/S tires one could buy for the MCS, no?

any comments, pro/cons?

I have 215/40R17 Conti SportContact2 on mine. No problems whatsoever, on the contrary, much better grip-wise than the Dunlop run flats. No difference in road noise, great tire

wrt 215/45r17

wouldn't that be a bit too big for the wheelwell? stock is 205/45, I figured that the drop to /40 would compensate for the 215/...

then again the diffrenece is .9cm so mebbee its not a big deal :-)

what is the largest tire dimension one can place on an MCS w/o rubbing or throwing off the speedo and odometer?

If you look in the faq, specifically http://www.mini2.com/forum/thread3493_.html
you'll see that 215/45R17 is at the top end of the acceptable size, at least for speedometer/odometer readings. I suspect it will fit fine on stock suspension setups.

Hmmm

ContiExtremeContact pretty much seems the way to go (still trying to figure out what to do about flat tires...)

has any heard of ContiPremierContacts? Conti's website refers to them as having gone on sale may 1st, but google brings up no other matches than the manufacturers website...

Guys, I am having the same trouble myself. My Mini S is not here yet but it will be here in a month. I am considering the same exact tires. However, til now, I am still looking for advise if I should go with 215/40/17 or stock size 205/45/17. With the STOCK susp. setup, am I going to have any trouble with 215/40s? I know this guy in Hong Kong has 215/45/17 but he said the tires will rub even with 1 passenger in the car! But he has KW coilovers. According to Grassroot Mag. (www.grmotorsports.com) their project Mini S has 215/40s but they change the susp. at the same time. So doesn't help on that one.
PLEASE can someone tell me if it is ok to go with 215/40/17 with stock susp?
Oh BTW, I have 40mm off set for the rims too.... (Volk Racing GT-P)

I also currently running tire size of 215/40/17 with stock suspension and even now with 1.5" lowering springs. Therefore i can safely say NO they wont rub even with 4 185+ people in the car. been there , drove that. Now just noticing the offset you put down for the Volk rims might make it a slightly different story in your case. The off set says how far your tire sticks out. and this may cause a rub if it sticks out to far. I think but dont quote me on this the stock rims are 42mm off set. Which means they stick 2mm farther into the car than the Volk. Also meaning you may get a rub from your outside fender and not the suspension.

so 215/40/17s are safe...

215/45/17s will have a better ride, but they are risky if one modifies their suspension... how about w/ a stock MCS setup?

(I have no intention of doing anything w/ the suspension for a long long time, cosmetic mods, JCW kit and some better brakes will keep me busy for the forseable future)

I ran 215/45/17 Kumho's with the stock suspension with no problems. When I added coilovers and lowered the car a bit -- still no problem - Until I loaded up the car for a trip - Me, Wife, luggage, extra set of wheels & Tires, tools, etc. (autox journey) I then had rubbing in the back over bumps etc.
