Hello Folks,
I have just replaced the rear pads and wear sensor on my 2007 R56 S, now.....how do I reset the "Brake Pads Worn" warning. Is it something that can be done easily without needing a reader (e.g. by switching on the ignition while holding/pressing a sequence of the buttons on the tacho?) or is it something that I'll have to take to a dealer/workshop to have reset?
Not sure about the Gen 2 but on my Gen 1, it auto reset once a new sensor was in. May want to try a Batt disconnect and then leave it a few mins, then reconnect the Battery.
Also, get hold of one of these as they are well worth the price and saves having to go to a dealer.
the gen ii can be reset by pushing the stalk and poking through the menus. (I think, i never personally let the brakes get to the sensors) If you cant figure it out let me know I'll look up the procedure in the bentley book.
Insert Key
Do not press clutch / brake
Press Start button
Wait until the Car / revelant Service symbol disappears on the Rev counter display
Immediately after the symbol goes out - Press and hold Both buttons on the Rev Counter
Continue to hold - the system Will run a dash light check
Continue to hold
Display will then show VIN / Menu, - continue to hold through this until the time Reappears on the display.
Now release Only the Right hand Button (trip reset) for about a second, and then press and hold again (whilst still holding the LH button)
After another second or 2 the display will show the Front Brake Symbol You Are Now in the Service Menu
Use the BC Button (on indicator stalk) to scroll through to the relevant symbol - eg Rear Brakes
To Reset the warning indicator light - Press & Hold the BC Button at the revelant symbol until RESET appears - then press and hold again until the process is complete.
Turn Off and On the Ignition again - Warning should now have gone!
Thanks for the advice, Peteren69, I tried it but as soon as I turn the ignition on I get the ignition on warning (!) which didn't want to go out. When the audio warning stopped I pressed both buttons and after about 30 seconds the dash light check cycled through, but after this no VIN, no time display, just the ignition on warning and the odometer reading. I tried it with just the accessories on (no ignition on warning, but no service error warning either) the VIN appeared after a few seconds and stayed on, did not show the time or anything else.
I'll try again tomorrow night, but for the moment the battery has now gone flat and I have the charger on it....
As for pad wear, GJXJ, the warning had been on for about 4000km. I kept a close eye on the pad thickness, even when I took them out a few days ago there was still a good 5+ mm of material left, however I think that if I was going to do any high-speed and heavy braking driving (e.g. long winding roads) I would have changed them a while ago. THe discs were worn too, last time I had it serviced the service centre warned me that the rear discs would need rplacing at the next service.
Start engine
Press and hold BOTH buttons on the Tacho guage until the VIN appears, then push the button on the indicator stalk to scroll through the service menu until you find the item you want. Hold the indicator stalk button until the display changes to "Reset", then release and push the button again, error reset!
