Hi,
Got my Mini Cooper just a month ago. Its on an 09 plate and immaculate cond and the tyres all very good condition (run flats) Came home from work this evening and warning icon flashed up (in red) to indicate puncture (!) so Im hoping to replace tyre tomorrow.
First question, how much should I expect to pay for a decent run flat to fit my car? Am I right thinking the size is 140?
I have no idea how I got the puncture in the first place as only driving a few miles to and from work on decent roads or whether there could even be another reason for the warning light to flash up. Does it really indicate that my tyre has totally 'had it' and cant be fixed? I'm new to run flats and have no idea what to expect so any help for this newbie would be appreciated. Thanks
dont forget you need to keep the same make and tyre across the axle,
Potenza RE050A
205/40 R18 W (82)
Fitted from Black Circle at a garage of your choosing,
£141.20 Each Fitted
Lots more choice in the smaller sizes,
Have a look here, but please there are other places this is
just to give you an idea size required & price point.
Then shop around once you know the size, brand and price fitted..
Just put in your cars registration and then get 2 fitted to be sure..
Check the tyre pressure, and reset the system. Just because it tells you you have a puncture, it doesn't necessarily mean you do. Check before you spend your money.
Many thanks for the comments, the puncture was actually in a rear tyre (both rear were Goodyear) but the guy at the garage pointed out the NON-punctured tyre was actually a 'snow tyre' so I would have to purchase a matching one for the other side as same axle, same type etc ...yes and same high price! I ended up replacing the damaged tyre with a new Goodyear and also the non faulty snow tyre with a matching basic Goodyear too. More expense than I was expecting but would have maybe been dearer buying a matching snowy one???
Not sure if I did the right thing but at least I know its all fixed now.
I was so hoping the puncture was in the passenger front as I have a lone Hankook on there and would have liked all 4 to be Goodyear.
I know they should match.
I was also told you can not fix a run flat! (Had spoken to a guy earlier who had told me you COULD) and you guys also say its possible... I'm only a woman so what would I know?
Funny thing is, the guy at the garage couldnt manage to get rid of the warning icon off my dash, tried for ages and it kept on flashing up. Anyway I pulled up at Tesco later to take a look at it myself after a quick look in my handbook and hey...... I fixed it. Cheers for all the help & advice though
You CAN fix runflats. I repair all my punctures myself after getting involved in too many arguments with tyre companies trying to sell me new tyres when all they needed was repaired!
