Wheel bolt caps?

Does anyone know if MINI makes black wheel bolt caps?

I just had a set of R90s put on, but my bolts are an orange-yellowish color.

Thanks.

I think I'm going to have to buy black bolts. Maybe a better color (instead of orange-yellowish) to describe my current bolts is gold. There's nothing on them. They are just gold...probably because my MCS came with the standard 16" V-Spokes and the bolts are covered by the center cap. MINI probably thought that they could put gold bolts on because no one would ever see them.

I'll definitely check out Pep Boys and Napa for black bolt caps before I order black bolts from the dealer.

I too thought the MINIs with exposed wheel bolts had black bolt caps like VW does, but in fact MINI supplies actual black wheel bolts on those cars.

They are about $4 each at the dealer.

The gold color is probably just from the coating. No one likes rusted wheel bolts, and gold's probably a better coating, when color doesn't matter, since deck screws and the like are usually gold color coated.

Magic 8-ball was correct. All be in awe of Magic 8 ball.

The gold colour on the bolts will be a zinc passivate coating....this is to protect the material from corrosion.

Be very careful when swapping wheel bolts for an alternative as you must maintain the correct bolt grade i.e. 8.8, 10.9, 12.9 (this refers to the mechanical properties of the material used in the manufacture the bolt).

If you were to substitute a bolt, for one of a lower grade you may run into problem with bolts shearing......BE CAREFUL!!!

I think the plastic cover route, gives the least risk solution IMHO.

Cheers,

Robert
