Runflat tires

Has anyone ever had a problem with their runflats? Have they ever gone flat and been undrivable? Also, has anyone noticed problems with wear, etc?

Nothing here... the wife had 10,000 on hers before we downsized for winter. No noticable wear, no problem. Undoubtably, as with many car problems, it depends on how you drive.

Hers: '02 LY/white, CVT ...... His: '04 BRG/white

Look through the tyres forum, there's lots of information there. Some people have had runflats get sidewall punctures, and like all tires, they're not repairable, but of course without air, they can be driven up to 50 miles, or as your manual says depending on the amount of air hundreds of miles on low air.

Whether you want to get a spare is questionable, if you're looking at a donut mini-spare, its probably not worth it, since they can only got 50 miles no matter what, which your runflat will be able to do even with an 1" hole in the side, but if you want a normal sized tire, it could be worth it, but it'd take up a lot of boot space.

Rememember the tires can be replaced with 'normal' tires, so if you're in the middle of nowhere, you can have a tire shop replace your tire with something in a similar size and just continue on and get it fixed when you're back somewhere that has the correct tire.

The tires wear quickly, but that's mostly their design, not being runflats, check the tyres forum again for threads on that so you know how much to expect your particular brand to last.

For long trips I'd get a spare. The runflat may be able to get you to a safe spot, but at night or in the more desolate areas, you might have problems finding someone to repair/replace it. With the spare you can change it, keep on motoring, then get it fixed the next day when the stores are open.
