New tires 215-50 16s

Just put on a set of BF Goodrich Traction TAs 215-50-16. Only got to do a quick around the block before dinner. WHAT a difference! Can't wait to actually get out and drive. Mounted on a set of X-Lites I picked up (Thanks Mike). And thanks to HarryIndiBlue for pointing ut the tires. I wanted to find a good all season performance tire that was wider but had the same diameter. The 215s fit the bill.
Come on tomorrow. Might have to miss a little work

obehave,

Can you post some pictures of your MCS with the new wheels? Like you, I also have the X-Lites on my MCS. Would be nice to see the profile of the 215/50's compared to the standard 195/55's.

Having seen lots of EB/W MCS's with the S-spokes, I dare say that I actually like the X-lites with this colour combination better. I feel that the S-spokes tend to 'compete' with the EB colour, which makes it less distinct. With the X-lites, I find my focus goes back to the car's colour.

By the way, aren't those BF Goodrich tyres just normal tyres, not runflats?

Tire choices in 215/50-16 are few ... no run flats. If you're looking for a summer performance tire in this size, you can go with the Kumho ECSTA Supra 712.

All-season tires in any appropriate 16" size are also scarce, with 205/50-16 Pirelli P7000 Supersport having the highest performance "classification".

Cool. I am looking to replace my runflats on my x-lites 16", and wandered about some 215/50's. I was however concerned about the extra width and would any rubbing occur. Have u experienced any yet and how much did u pay all in?

I'll try to get some tonight but I can assure you from the side you can't tell a difference. From the back the extra 20mm is nice.
Yes, they are non runflats

maxdude:
I did a few lock to lock circles out in front of my house and part of one through a large dip in the road by my house. Zero problems.
$482 or £290 if I got the conversion right.

One bummer, I did notice a vibration at 50-55 mph. Why can't tire shops balance a tire worth crap? You always have to go back and bitttch.

Glad you like them, Obehave. Hope they get it balanced right next time -- on cars crummier than the MINI customers probably can't tell bad balancing from a hole in the ground but with the MINI I notice when I have uneven mud stuck to my wheels...

Harry

I will be applying boot to posterior this afternoon as soon as I get off work.
It's not a slight imbalance, it's bad.
I don't get it. 30 years ago I could do a better job using one of the old bubble level balancing machines. For chrissakes it's right at 55mph. The National friggin speed limit!!

Thanks again Harry. The tires ride great. I just went for a lunch time blast. Traffic was too bad to hit my favorite ramps at decent speeds but it feels like a new car. Can't for the life of me find the weight of the tire but I don't think it was much less than the run flat.
Good fun.

Edit:
Added some night pics.
