Runflat Tyre Query ?

Alot of people on this site say how bad the standard runflat tyres are, so I was wondering what the alternative is ? If you don't have runflats and get get a puncture what do you do ? Do the cans of tyre filler actually work and do any of you Cooper S owners carry them around if you don't have runflats ? I'm just wondering because the runflats will cost alot to replace and give less performance than normal tyres so it would be good to get rid of them without the constant worry of "what if"

Thanks

Badboyz

Hi, just had 2 new Pirelli PZero Assimetrico fitted to the front of my Cooper. First impressions are, quieter, does not bang and crash over bad road surface, feels slighty more soft, but better grip. I am going to carry a compressor and a can of tyre stuff. Hope this is of help to you, Damian.

Yea alot of people have mentioned normal tyres being quieter too. I have been thinking about buying a 12"-13" wheel and just sticking it in the boot and getting rid of the runflats. Anybody else done this ?

I don't find runflats bad at ll except for the cost - i don't think they're particularly noisy and having had a puncture was very impressed with not having to do anything except drive to a place to get em fixed!

I've just officially given up on my runflats. I now have a slow puncture in my o/s front and rear wheels. On average, I receive a puncture once every other month and have to take the car in either for a repair (if I'm lucky), or a complete tyre replacement, even if there's 6mm of tread left on the tyre!
I'm thinking of going down the PZero route and picking up a small spare space saver type arrangement from somewhere. Anyone know where I can source one of these from at non-BMW prices?
Also, any comments against the PZeros? I think a can of tyre weld along with a portable compressor has also got to be worth carrying to try first before getting the jack out. At least if that will get me to the nearest garage it will be worth it.

Thanks
Stu

After speaking to the chap at my local tyre place, he said that if you use a can of sealant on the tyre, it cannot be repaired because it will be full of the gunk and will need replacing like a runflat will - although a normal tyre will be cheaper to replace that a runflat.

I ended up selling my runflats when the tread wore down and replaced them with high performance, non runflats. I was fortunate enough to never experience any punctures but I did carry a repair kit around just in case.

I can't comment on the PZeros but I can tell you that Goodyears Eagle F1 tires are fantastic if you were thinking of looking for another performance option.
