United-Kingdom 16" Tyres, Difference in sizes

Hi All,

I have just found a bloody great nail in one of my 16" runflats. I have been intending to replace all the runflats to standard tyres for sometime so I think now is the time.

After decided on which make of tyres I want I find that none of them are available in 195/55/16, which are the size of the runflats on my car at the moment.

Had anyone changed these for 205/50/16 and are there any implications. I guess technically this would change the diameter of the tyres so would it effect the speedo reading, acceleration and topend? Would bmw get the hump for warrantee purposes?

Any info would be gratefully recieved.

Secondly does anybody know a good performance tyre available in the standard size? I am interested in either Goodyear Eagle F1's, Continental Premium contacts, Pirelli P7's or Micheline Pilot Sports.

Thanks again

TTFN

James

There aren't many 195/55R16 tires available. Pretty much the OEM MINI ones (Goodyear Eagle NCT5, Dunlop SP Sport 3000/5000 & WinterSport M3) plus Firestone Firehawk GA02 (horrible) and Bridgestone Blizzaks of one sort.

205/50R16 has MUCH more choice. The Eagle F1 and ContiSportContract are available in that size. Please see the replacement tire FAQs as they list what replacement tires are available in what sizes: http://www.mini2.com/forum/faq.php?f...lacement_tires

I didn't want runflats or that lousy Firestone Firehawk so I went with the affordable Yokohama AVS ES-100 in 205/50/16. The diameter is a bit shorter that the stock 16"tire, but it's still a larger diameter than the stock 15" tire, so it's definitely okay.
