Unhappy Tire/Tyre Help

We had four new Continental ContiTouringContact tires/tyres mounted & balanced on our 15" 7-Holies. [175/65 R15]

As we drove away the Tire Sensor/Monitor light began blinking. I figured it needed 10 miles/km & then it'd be re-set. Since it wasn't a long distance home, I figured the wife's morning drive would serve as it's Re-Set distance, but...

We're on the 3rd day now & the wife called to say it is still blinking (it never stopped), after 28+ miles of driving.

There is an odd rubber smell she pointed-out to me once the garage door was closed last night. Of course this seemed stronger near the tires, but I found nothing upon inspection & passed it off as new tires breaking in?

So, I met her recently, attempted to "Re-Set" the monitoring system (again), -pushing the button & she drove home. Again, it never stopped blinking & she even saw the dreaded "!" within a triangle, within a circle above the gas/petrol gauge before arriving home.

Ugh! Since that's likely more than enough for you clever folks to figure out what's wrong, I'll cut myself off --

Thanks for your time, all!

PS.
The tires/tyres are the proper stock wheels which would come on original MINI-issue 7-Holies.

I would double check all tire pressures, and make sure you follow the re-set instructions very closely to what the manual suggests - the position of the key and such are vital to correctly resetting the sensor.

As to the burnt rubber smell? I would suspect your assumption tying it in to the break in period is correct.

turn the key to position 1, depress reset button, hold until light illuminates solidly, turn on MINI, light should go off within the first 2-3 seconds, it does not blink or come on while it is 're-learning'

Just a bit of technerdical info,
Thw size of the tires won't matter if they're all the same size. The Tire Sensor works on a differential across the axle. A tire with less pressure has a smaller rolling circumference and so spins faster than the opposing tire at a given speed. Thus triggering a light.
This is all a function of your ABS system.
As suggested above. Definitely check your tire pressures. DO NOT EVER assume anyone has perfect work on your car. Those guys hit your tires with a 120psi compressor, overrunning a target is easy. Differences of 3-5 lbs are not uncommon.

Cool Thanks, Guys!

Thanks much, ddp.

Cheers to G & Obe, too!
[I tried to post a thank you response last night, but the page would never load correctly!?!]

Regardless... I followed instructions herein & all is well. Except, -

=> my MINI Manual says to put the key in ignition position 2, but it worked out. [Thanks!]

==> Yet, if what Obe's stating is true, (which I believe it is), - What am I to do about tire pressures in these 15" 175/65s? There seems no way to get them all to have the same "rolling circumference." ?

Q: The Manual recommends 30psi Front & 35psi Rear for a MC with these tires. Of course, there's no recommended psi for these tires on a MCS.

Gents?

As Obe says it works on differential across an axle, fronts being the same on one axle and the rears being the same on the other axle you shall be fine.

Thanks again,
Crazy Tattooed Global Mod!

-- I should've read that more carefuly.

Why would MINI Not Recommend this set-up on the MCS?
