England New Alloy & Tyre!

hey people,

i have a question for the people who know abit about tyres and wheels!

i have to buy a new alloy and tyre due to my previous wheel being unstable!(the guy in the garage said somethin about the magnet being uneven inside the wheel, which has caused some vibrations on my steering wheel!)

Anyway, if and when i buy i know alloy wheel and tyre what is the best way to place it!

by this i mean should i just do a straight swap or should i rotate the wheels and place the back left on the rear front, etc, etc, with the new wheel going on the back of the car?

and also would be best if i got them balanced in a wheel place?

thanks for your help people!

The only reason to replace a wheel would be if you have buckled it Have you smacked into any kerbs lately??

Anyhow, when a wheel is balanced (this should be done whenever a tyre is changed) they place weights inside the rim to 'balance' it. If one or more weights has fallen off (feasible) then i would simply have the wheels re-balanced at a local tyre fitter.

If the vibration is still there then you might want to look into getting a new wheel. Unless the tyre is damaged or worn etc then there would be no reason to replace it at the same time as replacing the wheel.

BTW, if the wheel is buckled, you will be able to visibly see it wobbling when they put it on the balancing machine. They will be able to balance it so it will take away most of the vibration but you should still replace the wheel in that situation.

If this is helpfull please give me a reputation point

Sorry but that sounds like a serious pile of BS. They're alloy rims. Magnets only work on iron based metals. And I've never heard of a magnet in a rim.
A decent shop can check the balance of the rim without a tire on it.

You didn't give any details about the tire so it's hard to say more

thanks for info people!

as ricco said the wheel is buckled (didnt write coz couldnt remember the exact words, but the info has jogged my memory).

the information i was given was the car was checked on two seperate occasions, the first time they did a visual examination of the car to check for punctures in the wheel, damage to the alloy, etc, etc.
the second time, they put it on the ramps and got the car running. they said the vibrations on the steering wheel were due to the alloy wheel being buckled!
am not gonna doubt this info. coz have been to this dealership for a long time and have always had a good experience with them.
anyways, been told the wheel is repairable but this would make the alloy weaker, and am running the risk of the wheel buckling again!

have ordered my new alloy and tyre and hopefully, they should be here tomorrow (monday)!

l8ers!

btw the alloy is an fondmetal 6200 and the tyre is yokohama 205/40 r17 a539 just fyo!

l8ers!
