Unhappy Advice required please

Hello everybody,

Finaly a serious post by Buttons!!

My front tyres have scrubbed very badly on the outer edges, it might be something to do with the wheel alignment? I don't know a great deal about this sort of stuff so I'd appreciate any advice or suggestions for things I could check.

I know it's not tyre pressure, cos I check that regularly.

BMW want £180 just to check and any reapirs won't be covered by warranty apparently (unless there is a fault).

Also, what size tyres can I fit to my 17" S-spokes? I've done search but can't find a definitive answer. I want Eagle F1's on there, but they only come in 215/40 and not 205/45. Will they be OK?

Appreciate ANY input

How long have yo had the car? I had the near side front do the same, was spotted by a technician will looking at something else and they did a KDS check on it under warranty. They found the camber was well out and probably had been since they had done the left pull fix several months earlier. The car was probaly over a year old or just comming up for it.
So my point is if it is relativly new and pressures are ok then was it set up ok from day one, use this argument and they may do it for you. Alternativley you go around corners to quick!

On the F1 front, I have them on my 16" rims, and they are 205/55 (originals are 195/55), not exactl;y the same but you may strike lucky. Try blackcircles.com, that were I found them. Good tyres, only have them on the front so far.

My 7 month old S has just over 13,000 on the clock and my fronts are almost shot, plenty of tread in the middle but the outside edges are almost gone... have not kerbed any wheels at all...

I did notice something strange tho, I swapped my fronts to rears whilst I cobble together enough cash for a set of 18's... and when I did my car stopped pulling to the left as badly as it had....

Thanks Andy,

You've put my mind more at rest. I didn't want to fork out a rake of cash to BMW just for them to tell me nothings wrong.

So what with the tyres then? will 215/40's fit on my 17" S spokes?

Not sure with the tyre sizes matey....

I guess the edge of my tyres going is more to do with not slowing down to go round corners !!!

ButtonIt,

Have a look at this site http://www.chris-longhurst.com/carbi...yre_bible.html it's a great resource for tyre Q&As. What is neat though is the tyre calculatior half way down that'll tell you how much bigger, or smaller, the new tyres are.

England Toe in details

My Cooper S needs front wheel alignment but my local tyre dealers are not sure what setting to work to in degrees or millimeters. I have tried to get the figures from my BMW MINI dealer but they say they don't have them! They can only set it up on their machine if I book it in for three weeks time and cant give me a cost until they know what needs to be done. Can someone give me the settings ?

to be honest if your local tyre fitters dont know what it should be i wouldnt let them put a spanner/gauge on my car!! Reason any reputable tyre fitting company will have a current Autodata book and how long has the MINI been released?

it is the real Buttonit Loz . Theyre all just playing silly buggers with their sigs and avatars - ie buttons is soogy, soggy is Mad Brummie and Mad Brummie is Buttonit - well only according to their sigs - the user names are always correct.

Just ignore them - theyre just going through their second childhood
