Scotland From Runflats to normal tyres?

Hi, i was wondering if i changed to aftermarket alloys without runflat tyres (i have runflats at the moment) would this be illegal since i have no spare wheel? I want aftermarket alloys but dont want to pay for runflats, whats my best bet and who has gone from runflats to non-runflat tyres?
Thanks.

You can purchase a compressor/glue kit to fix a flat. This is actually the norm for MINIs with 15" non-runflat tyres so not illegal.

Besides I don't think it is illegal to not have a spare or means to fix a puncture, matbe just a bit daft

I just junked the 17" run flats at the front, and dropped on a pair of P-zero's (non-run flat). I've purchased an 'ickle compresser and a tin of tyre-weld.
Job done.

Sorry AberdeenMiniman, don't wanna hijakc your post but are there major advantages to swapping from runflat tyres such as slightly softer ride etc?

I believe you can buy all the bit you'll need from MINI. Have a look in your manual and look at the section about repairing a punture with the "MINI mobility system" - that's what they call it anyway.

I don't have it so not sure of all the bits you need but basically you pump some glue into your tyre and blow it up using a compressor run off the cigar lighter socket.

Non-runflats are cheaper and available in a much wider range of makes etc. Heard good things about Pirelli P-zero, Goodyear F1, Toyo Proxes and Yokohama tyres.

This is what I bought for just over £20...

And from what I read elsewhere, non-runflats give a better ride, due to not having extremely tough side-walls.

Hi AberdeenMini, the law does not require you to carry a spare tyre, however, if you do carry a spare, then it must be in good condition, i.e no bald spots, correct pressure etc.

If you took your car for an MOT, the examiner could fail it if you had a dodgy spare tyre in the boot, but if you had taken the dodgy spare tyre out of the boot and left it on the garage floor before you went for your MOT, then your car would pass (considering everything else was okay)

Jones!

I found 17" Pirelli Pzero's for £98+vat each in Denbigh/Bletchley. Price include balancing with sticky on weights.

non runflats.

I just swapped over last week from nearly new runflats, The dunlop 9000 ones to Dunlop 9000 non runflats, the difference in ride is as great as everyone is stating, I am SO happy I changed, Cost me 380 quid including install.

I have 17 inch stock S lites and the new tyres fit even better with slightly more rim protection with the bump strip they have.

cheers. Peter
