Offline | Ride quality Hi, I have recently bought a 6 month old MCS fitted with 17" S Spoke wheels and Pirelli run flats. I was reasonably happy with the ride quality until I drove one fitted with 16" wheels. The difference in ride quality was amazing. As I do a lot of motorway miles I really would like to improve the ride now I know how much better it can be. My question is, is it the 17" wheels causing the hard ride or is it the run flats ? Should I change to non run flats or to 16" wheels. If so can any one reccomend suitable tyres / wheels. Any advice would be appreciated. |

Offline | This comes up a lot, I would always advise 16" over 17" for regular road use. Basically I would say it depends on your choice of tyre, but dropping the runflats on the 17's will make a nice difference. Swapping down to 16" with runflats will make a ncie difference. Swapping down to 16" wheels on non-runflats would, in my opinion, be even better. ![]() |

Offline | Decided to take the plunge and got 4 x p zeros fitted at a nearby garage ( £416 all inclusive ) even though there is still at least 5mm on the runflats. The difference in the car is unbelievable, it has transformed it, no vibrations or tramlining much quieter etc etc etc. To be honest I was struggling to justify replacing my tyres that probably had another 10 k in them, but it turned out to be the best £400 I have ever spent. I can even see clearly in the rear view mirror now on the motorway ( unless I pump up the HK too high !! ) before it was just a blur. I say to anyone with runflats who is at all not happy with them, just do it, you will be amazed. Whats £400 extra if it makes a £15K + car twice as good. Just make sure you have got a motorbility kit or somthing similar. P.S. Any one want to buy my 4 x Pirelli 17" runflats, excellent condition - no, thought not !! |
