United-States Raising the Mini

Ok, so I know many out there are going to think this is blasphemy, but I am having a problem with my tires rubbing on the inside of the wheel wells on the rear. I have some after market wheels on and they are 215/45/16's with a 16" rim 7.5 inches wide. The offset is 40mm. I had heard about some spacers that you can put between the car and the shocks or struts or something like that that will raise the car about 1/2 inch. I contacted MiniMania about them, but they no longer stock them. Does anyone out there know where I can get a hold of a set, or have any other ideas to raise my Mini to give is some extra clearance. I have a standard Mini with the regular suspension. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Robert

I've read where some of the people who've had this problem trimmed the inside edges of their wheel wells for clearance. If the rubbing isn't bad this may be a quick solution for the problem.

LordoftheFlies' tire rubbing thread has good info.
The 40 ET is making it tough.
Raising the car would be a bummer.
