United-Kingdom Tyres Cooper S

If I replace my run flats with normal tyres, what would you suggest? (factory 17"s)
As there is no spare, what about punctures ?? Would this be covered byMini/BMW as a call-out under warranty ??/

I suggest looking at the Tire Statistics to see what other MINI owners are doing.

Gnerally speaking, runflats are not covered by warranty when they lose tire pressure, and they are both difficult and expensive to replace. No aftermarket bit you can put on your car will be covered by the new car warranty.

I am waiting for my runflats to wear out, at which time I will probably install the Yokohamas mentioned in the statistics.

I've fitted Pirelli PZero Asymetricos's and got a small compressor and some tyre weld.

The car's so much better now, it's much quieter, comfier and handles mile better.

I replaced my runflats with Bridgestone Potenzas and i ordered the compressor and tyre goo stuff from MINI SPARES if i remember correctly.Only problem was that on their site it didn't say,NOT SUITABLE FOR 17" wheels. It only lists tyre pressures up to 16" rims.Kept it anyway cos at least with a compressor you can blow the tyre up every few yards if you really need to .I then went out and bought a can of HOLTZ tyre weld(spare wheel in a can,i think is the advert)and it fits just nicely in those little cubby holes either side of the boot.

I've got a Michelin Tyre compressor (£25), it's digital, you just set the pressure you want and it does the rest and some Holts Tyre Weld too.

Angry

Ive just had the MOST EXPENSIVE PUNCTURE EVER !!
Having 17" Runflats may well be the best idea for a car not to carry a spare wheel and save on a little weight. BUT and This is a BIG BUT if you get a puncture in the centre of a runflat im told that it Cannot be repaired in any way and that a New Tyre is all thats going to fix the problem. Problem is that a new Pirelli euphoria 17" runflat is going to lighten your wallet by £177.Yes Thats the cheapest quote i got the other day and i just cant understand why a runflat which is still in very good codition after driving 12miles on could not be fixed.

Any suggestions would be greatfull

NOT TRUE ... it's a puncture in or near the sidewall that requires purchasing a new tire.

FAQ: Can punctures to run flat tires be repaired?

my advice is lose the runflats, as normal tyres ride much better as Rich-UK said, and they're also far cheaper to replace. For example, I planned on getting Toyo Proxes TS-1's which cost less than £70 each fitted from my local tyre fitter, although I got Uniroyal rain tyres in the end as the supplier didnt have Toyos available at the time.

I also carry a can of Holts Tyre Weld in the car incase of puncture

Tyre weld is fine and dandy for getting you home but when travelling @ not the legal limit would you trust that goo stuff to hold tight and keep going till the end of tyre life.

I would hope that it kept air in the tire long enough to get me to a dealer who could repair or replace the problem tire. I would not expect to keep running on such a fix. The slight extra convenience of runflats is offset by their enormous cost and rather uncomfortable ride.
