| i believe these are quite good tyres. i think evo magazine replaced the r/f s on their bmw Z4 with these and were quite impressed. i do have to question your tyre guy's thinking on toyos only lasting 5k. i put them on my old focus and they did 10k and still had some tread left. anyway, yes i think these should be quite good tyres. vredestein's are supposed to be very good in the snow and very wet conditions. maybe less good in the dry than some but i'd rather, on a road car, in UK, a tyre that is good in the wet. | The guy's comments were based on his own personal experience......V6 Calibra, numerous trackdays etc. I always think tyre wear is a subjective thing anyway.....different cars, different drivers, different conditions....... As in indication, I've got 20k+ out of a set of GY RFs......and that's without rotating the tyres front to rear.........so that maybe gives you an idea of my driving style! |

| yeh, i think the calibra would be quite nose-heavy and with track days too.... anyway, I think you'd be safe enough to go with the Vredesteins. 20k out of r/fs says to me you're not exactly pushing the outer limits of grip on every trip to tesco?? maybe the V/steins sacrifice a tad in ultimate grip but would you care? if i was you, i'd buy them. out of interest, i have my tyre guy trying to source a set of Conti Sport Contact 2s for me. they are in a 195/55 r16. they get a lot fo very good write-ups. i've never been a fan of contis, but the reviews i've read are all fairly glowing and my tyre guy, who knows what he's talking about, recommends them highly. he's quoting me £74 each which i feel is good. up here, fitted, the best i've found on a goodyear eagle F1 is £163 EACH!! | My guy also recommened the Conti too.......more importantly they come in a std size, so speedo readings etc will be OK. Not sure whether to go slightly bigger or stick to stock sizes. This would determine which I go for....... Just gotta find the £300 to get them fitted.....although this is softened slightly by being able to flog my "almost" new rears on ebay, once they're on. My-tyres ,quoted £97 each for the Goodyears, and my guy will fit them for £10 each......have you tried this??? |

| yes, jim (tyre guy) can't get F1s for less than £170 each as he's not a goodyear stockist. i don't fancy getting them from mytyres and getting jim to fit them as he's kinda a mate and is good mates with one of my mates (that make sense?) i feel it'd be a bit cheeky to get him to fit tyres he hasn't supplied. the other tyre place near me won't fit tyres they haven't supplied. i have managed to get them to mount yokohamas on my hillclimb car but they charged me £20 each. thankfully was just the fronts. they only fitted them as they couldn't stock them being a motorsport tyre.
