Quick question, quick answer

I have 16 inch X-Lite wheels which are 195/55.

Will I be able to get a 205/50 tyre on the rims?

Tried searching for this and couldn't find anything, so a simple yes or no answer would be great as I don't want to order them and find they don't fit.

Cheers,

Chris.

Yes.
No problem whatsoever fitting 205/50R16 on the X-lites, and a lot more selection in that size also.

I have just fitted a set of four 205/50 16 F1's on my Cooper. The pain in my spine that was caused by two years of run flats has already started to disappear!

The upside is better handling and more comfortable ride - both factors noticeable in the first 20 miles of driving on them.

The downside is the slight niggle at the back of my mind of getting stuck somewhere because I have no spare.

Will see you right with a can of gunk anhd a compressor for under £40 all in. Bung 'em in the boot and away you go - lets face it, if gunk doesn't work in a certain situation a runflat would struggle anyway (ripped side wall, tread lift, tear etc).

Without r/fs you can enjoy the cornering prowess of the Mini as the chasis guys intended!

Thanks Steve, I will pop into Halford's tomorrow on my lunch break.

This is my only niggle, the improvements in ride and handling are instant.

Better handling?

Hmmm... I've just made exactly the same switch - putting 205/50 Eagle F1's onto X-lites - and I have to say I've been a little concerned about the handling.

At first it felt instantly more grippy, but under hard cornering and direction changes, the tyres have felt disconcertingly squirmy. Of course, this may just be because I've got loads more tread moving around compared to the 2mm I had before the switch, but it seems more pronounced than I'd expected. Has anyone else encountered this? I'm doing a trackday this coming weekend, so it would be good to know in advance that I'm safe to push hard...

Thanks,

Mal.

I also have 16" x-lites and was wondering why 205/50 is better than 205/55 when replacing the tires? Increasing the width wont effect the overall diameter will it?

Yes changing the width will change the overall diameter. The profile is simply a percentage of the width.
