compact spare

This question has been asked before...but apperently nobody knows the answer...I've been told by someone at my delaer that I can buy a second hand compact spare from any relatively new model honda civic and it will fit my Cooper S Cabrio.

Is this true?

I'm planning to buy one second hand and really need to make sure. It's only for long trips as I'm gearing up to replace these run flats. I don't want to spend the big money on a mini spare - if it's even available.

Please help - Thanks fellow Mini2ers

Yup should be true.. I don't see why not.. Civics uses the same bolt pattern 4X100 as MINIs... so you should be able to use the "donut" wheel.. my only question is, where are you going to put it

Tyre size as supplied by BMW :

Posted this on NAM a while back (or maybe it was still Mini Cooper Online then):

My spare is a Continental. Size is 115/70R15
load rating 90. Says inflate to 60psi on the sidewall
and on the door jamb sticker.

115/70/15 would give a section width of 4.5", and a diameter of 21.3",
although I measure 4.75" and 21.5" and 21.5# weight.
Wheel is 15x3.5 with offset of 35mm (although I measure 37mm).

Thanks much for the info. FYI...I've also been told that a compact spare from an Acura Integra 94 and newer will fit Minis well.

BUMP.

Anyone actually tried this?

Or found another space saver that fits? (clearance, not just same PCD)

Thanks,

Bill

Some of the Rover (some of them have space saver wheels) wheels fit MINIs, some Rovers have the same stud pattern and some don't .

The best people to ask is an alloy wheel shop as they will know which wheels will fit different cars ie, stud patterns etc... etc... and which cars have space-savers .

Recovery men normally turn up with a few space-savers from different cars when a car has been stolen & recovered with it's wheels missing, but they will usually know which cars wheels fit another's, but they don't care about clearances etc... as it normally just to get the car on the truck .

Mine's the one on the left.

Not sure which Honda or Rover wheels fit but I guess they are cheaper and easier to get hold of secondhand from car breakers.
I was lucky and picked up a brand new MINI space saver wheel on Ebay for £20 recently (no other bids) or perhaps you could try some of the specialist MINI breakers who would probably sell you the plastic carrier assembly also, but I bought the other parts new from BMW (See Link below)
(If you have a Cooper or One you can fit a space-saver spare wheel .........but not the MCS due to exhaust and rear battery box, not sure about the latest R56 Cooper S).
You could maybe carry the smaller spacesaver wheel (115/70/R15) inside the boot upright behind the rear seat if you have an S but with the loss of boot space.
Link here to all he parts needed to fit a spare wheel under the boot floor. I fitted a spare to my MINI recently when I changed to non-runflat tyres :-
