Federal Tyres...

Just found some amazing alloys on eBay for quite a good price, the only problem is that they're fitted with 'quality budget tyres'...

After a bit more research I found out that they were Federal tyres, SS595. What exactly does the seller mean by 'quality budget'? Are they dangerous etc? Will I notice any difference from the tyres that were on my 15" wheels I got from MINI? Will the braking distance be longer, will it hold the road less well etc?

I've looked into getting some proper tyres fitted after I've bought them, but at £600 for this they're more than the alloys on eBay!

Thanks for your help.

There's nothing wrong with Federal SS595s
Several of us have them.
I searched through lots of reviews and didn't find any bad comments on them.
As far as I can tell the only 'budget' thing about them is the price, about £70 fitted and balanced

Hi

i've got Fed's on my current car & previosly on my Civic type R. Great tyres for the price & fronts lasted in excess of 15k on my civic - stock Bridgestones managed a measley 7.5k.

Stick with the Fed's - you'll have a good tyre & £600 to spend on something else!

I've recently done a lot of research into replacement 205/45 R17's and I only heard good reports of the Federals. Managed to get some Avons for not a lot more in the end, but I don't think that you have anything to worry about with the Federals.

United-Kingdom Federal tyres

Quality of Federal SS595 tyres.
I am a tyre dealer in Huddersfield and can assure you that Federal tyres are a good brand and extremely good value for money. There are a lot of "Budget" brands that are no where near the quality of Federal. These are on par with Kumho & Hankook which are O/E fitment for some car manufacturers. One more good point, the SS595 has fantastic rim protection with massive sidewall depth.

I'll second the Feds, they're worth more than its asking price. Well if you can see behind the brand name that is
