I am runngin Dunlop runflats on
JCW rims and have been thinking about changing to non runflats.
I don't really have an issue with the handling / ride of the runflats but am concerned I am about to change my 3 set of front tyres in 18k miles. The rears are hardly worn.
I accept I drive fairly hard ( I have the full s works conversion but on standard suspension) but I have never had such poor life from a set of tyres in 20 years of driving often more powerful cars.
Out of preference I would stick to the runflats for ease of use but given there seems to be no alternative to the dunlops I think I will be forced to try the Goodyears (Initially on the rears, swapping those to the front, then in a couple of months (sob!) I will change those as well due to the inevitable wear.
One area I am unsure of is tyre pressure. When first fitted they have had 35ish psi (even from original BMW dealer) but on reading the replacement tyre pressure sticker which was fitted to the drivers door arch it indicates 50ish psi which seems pretty high. I have run the last 6k of new tyres with this higher pressure but with the same wear rate.
Would welcome any comments over wear rates experienced before I pluck up the courage over the next few weeks to go non run flat.
As a matter of interest I use Event Mobile Tyres who have been excellent travelling to my work and fitting for £146 per tyre. The Goodyear would be approx the same so no incentive on price to change unless of course I can reasonably get >12k from a set of reasonably hard driving.
Any thoughts appreciated both of the dunlops and solution for non runflats ie in case of puncture I have seen the cannister you pump "stuff" in with but have no experience of their usefullness.
