| are the dunlops runflats??? can they be repaired???? i have a set of jcw rims with these tyres and they will need to be changed soon dunno wot to go for either the toyo proxy or p zereo what you think |
| ||||
| Yeh they are run flats, and according to Mini dealership cant be repaired. As yours need replacing again - We'll find an alternitive sooner rather than later as the Dunlops cost £155-£175 depending on where you go! Cooper S Works Given up the running, drive instead !! Till the marathon next year ![]() |

| I got a nail through my rear Dunlop RF on the 18" JCW got it repaired no problems... then I crashed and need a new rear wheel now ![]() I'm looking at getting the Goodyear Eagle F1s GS-D3 (215/35) heard nothing but good reports from these tyres. Other alternatives for non RF are: Toyo Proxes T1-R Pirelli P-Zero Nero Falken FK-451 Yokohama Parada I've looked at most and decided on the Goodyears... £110/corner from mytyres.net Hope this helps. |
| |||
| Really? Theres quite a few users on here with non RF tyres on the JCW rims. I know Jones has Toyo T1-Rs on his, and Damo has had Falken-FK451s Which tyres have you had problems with? |
| ||||
| Realllllyyyyyy I have 215/35 R18 Falken FK-451. Think i was one of the first to change to non run flats and glad I did! 18,000 miles, better grip all round (especially in wet and on bumpy roads) Just awesome! Also despite the 215/35 being speced wider than the 205/40's, I have actualy got more room between tyre and dampner. ![]() |

205/40ZR18 Couldn't find this size on the UK Michelin site, but its on the US site. I'm sure it's available World wide though. Size Chart No wider than OEM, light, awsome dry & wet performance, + sticky, almost like R compound tyres, and not as harsh/better wheel protection than 35's. Edit: ...Oh, and they won't throw the speedo off by anything significant @ only 24.4 dia. vs. OEM 24.3 dia |
| ||||
| But the JCW Wheels and tyres already throw off your speedo as the standard tyres on a MINI are 15", which means 215/35 is more accurate. However assuming MINI make an adjustment for the Cooper S's standard 16" wheels (which I doubt), I've put them aswell which shows that 205/40 is more accurate. e.g. For a Cooper the standard wheel is 15": 175/65 R15 = Diameter of 608.5mm +0.00% Speedo shows 70mph = 70.00mph on the road Compared to Cooper -2.00% Speedo shows 70mph = 68.60mph on the road Compared to Cooper S For a Cooper S the standard wheel is 16": 195/55 R16 = Diameter of 620.9mm +2.04% Speedo shows 70mph = 71.43mph on the road Compared to Cooper +0.00% Speedo shows 70mph = 70.00mph on the road Compared to Cooper S For a MINI with OEM 17" wheels + tyres: 205/45 R17 = Diameter of 616.3mm +1.28% Speedo shows 70mph = 70.90mph on the road Compared to Cooper -0.74% Speedo shows 70mph = 69.48mph on the road Compared to Cooper S For a MINI with OEM JCW wheels + tyres: 205/40 R18 = Diameter of 621.2mm +2.09% Speedo shows 70mph = 71.46mph on the road Compared to Cooper +0.05% Speedo shows 70mph = 70.04mph on the road Compared to Cooper S My MINI with OEM JCW wheels and aftermarket tyres: 215/35 R18 = Diameter of 607.7mm -0.13% Speedo shows 70mph = 69.91mph on the road Compared to Cooper -2.13% Speedo shows 70mph = 68.51mph on the road Compared to Cooper S Got to also bare in mind (and I've read this somewhere so maybe someone else who knows better can explain how), that if the rolling diameter is smaller, you have in effect reduce the ratio of your gearbox, this in turn improves in gear acceration and equivalent torque to the road. Summat like that anyway. ![]() |

| Ive tried Continental sc2 in 225 35 18 and 215 35 18 and pirelli assymetric 225 35 18 however Toyo 215 35 18 tir or tis do fit as this tyre is about 20mm narrower than the others and we didnt bother trying the 215 35 18 p zero nero as they were just as wide |
| ||||
| 225/35 R18 wont fit JCW's as the wheel is only 7" wide. 225/35 R18 need a minimum Rim width of 7.5" 215/35 should and do fit as they will fit a 7" rim. Having got my new 215/35 Falkens alongside my old Dunlops, the dunlops are wider (despite being 205). But the Falkens have a much "squarer" edge. ![]() |

Been into to two tyre dealers today as I will need two new fronts very shortly. Priced Dunlop RF 205/40/18 One wanted 185.00 each fitted and balanced etc The other wanted 146.00 fitted and balanced etc Interestingly both said that Goodyear F1 215/35/18 were not available but if you go to Mytyres.co.uk its listed at approx 110. I will probably stay with Dunlop`s because of the less hassle if you get a puncture factor but also because they are not a lot dearer in the long run IMHO. 110 plus fitting and balance etc, plus can of gunk that by all accounts is not 100% plus being stuck somewhere on a dark wet cold windy night waiting for the breakdown guy plus possible damage to your lovely rim ![]() At least with the RF you can go home |
