Can anybody tell me the best place to get brake kits fitted in the north west UK.
Do you buy your parts from the garage, or before hand at an online shop?
Too many mods to list, PM me if the cat needs killing...
hiya, i have just had an ap racing big brake kit fitted to my mini cooper s , i live in chorley and i got my brake kit beforehand as the prices were better. i took it to a local garage in rochdale (although most will fit it) i went to halifax rd garage and i was only charged £40 for everything calipers, discs, and hoses to be fitted. Very happy with their work. Don't be ripped off, it only took 45 mins.
Hope this helps, also make sure you buy a proper kit, avoid the minisport stuff, my experience is its ****. your choice in the end though my opinion is subjective but im not impressed with their stuff for the prices they charge. The AP racing is wicked.

erm the one with the drilled discs 7???/1000 i think . Large discs and red calipers with braided hoses, i wasn't under the impression ap did a selection for the mini. I thought there was only one kit. Discs, Calipers, Braided hoses, pads, fluid etc. The guy who fitted it was really impressed how easy it was to fit and he only ran into one problem that was my 18" oz superlegerra alloys didn't fit without 5mm spacers (cost £10) .
You are right speedman AP only make one kit for the MINI. You will be able to run almost any 17" alloy wheel but for the stock rims you might need spacers. It is a pretty good kit and is very well balanced for the car. I also very much doubt the fact that you might need a bigger kit that 4-pot as the MINI is neither that fast or that heavy.
[quote=Cooper S Works]Is that a two piece rotor? (aluminium bell?)
Are the calipers red? YES
what pads do you get Ferrodo i think
what hose erm, dunno ap i guess
what fluid AP Fluid 5.1 dot
any stickers ? yes 2 ap ones
where did you order them from, and for how much? i ordered them from a place i know in greater manchester, (im not being funny) they have asked me not to say who they are. I paid £820 for the kit then £40 to fit it at an independant garrage.
That works out about 750quid supplied...cheapest I have seen by far
The hoses are by Goodridge.
The pads are special Ferodos which are made to match this kit specifically but cost a bomb to replace (150 quid upwards).
The rotor is a one piece iron, drilled item. The whole kit is also slightly heavier than stock due to the rotor dimensions etc.
The calipers are large, and will need something like a Team Dynamics T1 wheel to clear them.
A review from someone who has tested this kit extensively on the track and is still using it on his 'mule' car to this day:
I had my 304mm AP kit fitted at GGR - they didn't secure the braided hoses very well and I had to take the car back to get them tide back.
As for the kit, it is really rather good, fade free on the track and not grabby around town.
I would be wary of getting any garage to fit this kit though (Roland from GTT has posted an good descrution of the tolerances involved and it is quite exacting).
If you're going to spend the best part of a grand on better brakes and drive it like Ian, you may as well get if fitted by soemone with a repitation to protect.
MHO - I don't rate the pads - lots of dust and the leave deposits like crazy when warm! Also quite "graunchy" under heavy load
whilst i agree with your statement to a point, you had say you had your kit fitted by ggr and they still didn't secure the hoses correctly. I had mine fitteed at a little garrage (£40) (they all have a reputation to protect) and they secured them with zip ties. Also there isn't really that much involved with fitting a brake kit, mine was fitted within the hour and the job was spot on, im really loving my brakes now. It makes stopping almost as much fun as going. I agree with your opinion on the pads, maybe worth trying some mintex fast road pads next time, although my last set of mintex were faulty (in itself quite dangerous). I trust AP on this one, they made the kit, they should know what works best. They have a great reputation, good luck with whatever you choose.
