Crankshaft and thrust bearing wear @ ~51k miles
Have MINI inspect your crankshaft play - especially if you have experience clutch issues!

The following pictures are of the crankshaft and thrust bearing removed from my R50 Cooper (built Dec 2002) after only 51387 miles. This wear clearly exceeds the Axial Play service limit of 0.3mm! Only uncovered while replacing clutch following release bearing failure. Wear not uncovered by BMW MINI. Fully dealer service from new with Inspection II caried out in Oct. '09 ("not an inspection item!"). Post to follow
