Yep def up for this, what date shall we arrange it for!!?
(For me, would have to be when my MINI is back on the road... i.e. anytime from first week of Jan onwards, as my next three weekend will be spent in the garage!)
Location - Has to be somewhere nice to go for a drive, and on that road there should be a good pub... lol
i know a few of them roads, The Bulch up by ogmore vale also has nice roads. But brecon sounds good. What sort of date you looking for your car to be running again rich?
Hoping to have it back on the road first week of Jan, so I can drive back to Cardiff on either 31st December 2008 or 4th January 2008 at the latest... all dependant on being able to source the correct parts during December though!!
I should have the MINI back on the road by then too... but if not I'll jump in with Johnno (thanks mate). I have to have it ready by then anyhow, I'm fed up of walking to work already!!!
Going to be adding some mods in the meantime too, if I can afford it, reduced pulley & belt, JCW air intake and strut brace are on the list...
thats not a problem mate, i'll quite happily give you a lift =]
Bet your bored of walking! i was without my mini for 2 months and i missed it sooo much!
I was looking into a reduced belt too. but i want to get the looks sorted first. getting my springs fitted when my mrs gives them to me (christmas prezzie!) and strut braces, and then i want some 18" Oz Ultraleggera!
haha nice, don't blame ya! I always think mine could do to be dropped slightly maybe a couple of inches.
How comes you were without your MINI for two months? Yeh it is annoying, I miss driving it as well now! I only live 20 mins walk from work, but its just the hassle in the rain etc. and especially when I finish late, oh and not being able to drive over to see my girlfriend, lol! I have Christmas Day off till 2 Jan, so I'll be in the garage all of that week to make sure the MINI is back on the road.
I've stripped everything back, intercooler off, fuel rail and injectors off, valve cover is off, air intake and DME out, bumper, wheel arch and pipes off. Connectors and Sensors all off. Intake manifold is off, exhaust manifold is off. Drained engine oil and coolant. That and more (forget what else I've done) took around 12 hours this weekend. Nightmare problems with some rusted bolts but managed to get them all off in the end.
All that needs to be done now is drop the engine down, remove the engine mount and then take the cylinder head off... find out what caused the piston problem and then replace parts, re-assemble. But as I can't get home till Christmas I'm hoping my Dad will sort that out taking the head off - as I'll need to order replacement parts next week to arrive in time before Christmas. It's going to be a hard Christmas, but It'll be worth it and every job I do after this will seem easy!
ooo your getting well stuck in! if you need any special tools give me a shout. my dad had the mini for work for two months down in england, so i had a fiesta LOL
yes that does look like a lovely location! the whole of brecon is very good for photos etc, but i guess we need somewhere to stop to eat? could leave around ten, get some grub then go onto taking photos.?
Lol, didn't look at the meal prices! Yeh that is a bit expensive. I can recommend The Travellers Rest in Caerphilly (just outside Cardiff) - they do awesome Sunday lunches at very reasonable prices:
Hey Guys, this is right in my neighbourhood (one of them). Love to join you - thanks for the ref. Paa100 - been busy so not on forum lately! Not sure yet if I'll be around on Jan 18th but if I am we'd be up for it for sure. Travellers Rest is just down the road so don't mind starting or finishing there. Cheers!
My vote would be meet for early lunch (otherwise no light for photos) then a run. Maybe end with tea at the hotel I proposed earlier.
