That's right, from what I have read, they carried on with the CVT in convertibles for a couple of years longer than the other automatics. Why did they do that?

Would Mini still be doing updates for these older cars after 2014 or do you think the car has lost some programming since 2014?

Are mini still doing ECU updates for such old cars or do you think programming may have been lost?

Or does the ECU or something else need adjustment as the gearbox ages?

No idea, but I would think the only way to answer the update question would be to take to a MINI dealer for servicing.

Smile Sorted!

I spoke to Mini in Chelmsford and they state:
The issue I have with selecting D when car is cold is normal and caused by cold oil causing stiction between the drive clutch plates. I get the same thing with old motorcycle clutches which I 'free off' before kick starting.
The only time the car will need an ECU software reset is if some kind of repair is done.
The only time the gearbox Adaptions need to be reset is if a repair has been done and the car is setting its gearbox values as it is being run.
I know that sounds a bit sketchy and it is my interpretation after a quick phone call but it has put my mind at ease!

I have found out that the CVT does have an oil filter and that Mini are not doing ECU software updates on this model any more.

Hope this helps anyone else with the same issue.
