Unlocking mode
You can also set which parts of the car are
unlocked. The setting is stored for the remote
control in use.
1. Switch on the ignition, refer to page 35.
2. Briefly press the button in the turn indicator
lever repeatedly until "SET/INFO" is displayed.
3. Press and hold the button until the display
changes.
4. Briefly press the button repeatedly until the
symbol and "SET" are displayed.
5. Press and hold the button until the display
changes.
6. Briefly press the button repeatedly until the
display shows the illustrated symbol, arrow.
7. Press and hold the button until the display
changes.
8. Briefly press the button to select:
>
Press the button once to unlock
only the driver's door and the fuel filler
door.
Press the button twice to unlock the
entire vehicle.
>
Press the button once to unlock
the entire vehicle.
9. Press and hold the button until the display
changes. The setting is stored for the remote
control currently in use

Does this help?

I had a similar problem with my drivers side door. Something like the solenoid in the lock mechanism failed. It would open with the key and handle, or the inside handle, but unlocking from the key remote or dash switch wouldn't work

If this is the problem, It's a common one and requires the Rotary Latch Lock needs to be replaced.
They're £50 - £60 plus fitting. Mini Mania stock them and there's also some listed up on eBay.

Age would tell us, which is why I asked both. I'm guessing first gen just by the nature of the fault.

Ours doing the same, 53reg Cooper

Hello all, we've just bought our Mini from a Porsche dealer in Biggin Hill, it came with a 12 month independent warranty as the TLC pack has expired (although we do have two vouchers in the book), the car is more than 5 years old, so i assume that TLC is finished? The car is only on 28K miles however.
We've tried pressing the Mini emblem twice on the fob and the passenger door just won't open. The only method for opening is with the interior handle.
We also don't have the button on the indicator stalk (for the computer?), so cannot follow the good advice above. Do we therefore need to hook up a BMW computer to tweak the setting or is there another way?
When we do attempt to unlock the doors, i can hear the motor in the door, but the pull button does not lift and the door remains firmly closed.
Thanks for any help offered.

the instructions above is to configure the central locking system when you press the button on the key fob.

if the door doesn't open at all regardless of the amount of times you press the unlock button, or press the switch on the dash, i'd say the solenoid in the door is dead.

This happened to me a few months ago... Passenger side door wouldn't open with 2nd press on my key....or from inside when flicking the toggle... It ended up being the actuator....$250 later and it was fixed... Mine is a 2003 MINI COOPER! Hope that helps!
