noises at low revs/rpms

I have some strange noises coming from my Cooper. They are only apparent when at low revs, most noticable when crawling in traffic. I can hear creaking and popping like noises coming from the the bonnet area, not that loud but loud enough for me to hear. I also hear a creaking noise when I lift the clutch up at low revs, not all the time but fairly often.

Very frustrating! Any of the mechanically minded got any ideas what it could be?

Anyone any ideas? Creaking noise comes whenever I select first gear at a stop then apply throttle and bring the clutch up fully. Feels like something is straining. Looks like another trip to the dealers

not sure what that is at all. If you're unsure at all, take it back. That what we pay Mini 12-16k for.

i have an amusing 'sqeak' from the rear seat when i drive hard over a ridge or bump. Sound like a dogs squeaky toy!

I have also recently had strange noises coming from the engine bay at low revs and when the load on the engine changes, such as pulling away and changing gear. It has been traced to a noisy flexible exhaust section that connects the engine manifold to the rest of the exhaust system. Basically, when the engine rocks, this pipe makes an odd squeeking sound. It is due to tbe replaced by the dealer.

This is one definite possibility for you.

That's interesting TJL. I recently had my exhaust system replaced as previous to this problem I had other strange noises coming from the engine area. Could be another problem with the exhaust then.

Was everything sorted out then? I think I have the same problem, looks like I am going to take it to the dealer for a look.

Hi, Did you get this problem sorted out in then end? I seem to have the same problem. I recently took the car to a MINI specialist and they are convinced it was the flexi section from the Manifold.

I decided to buy a second hand Janspeed Manifold to iron out this horrible squeeking noise, to my horror- after fitting the Janspeed the noise was still there Have I bought another faulty manifold?
I recently sold the Janspeed decat system as I did not like the over bullish sound, and the lack of hearing the supercharger.

I`m back to square one. I`m now searching for another OEM though Manifold in the hope to solve this! Keep you posted. Dean
