Electic Blue S Getting 23 mpg looking for help

I just bought a 2005 Mini Cooper S hardtop and it had an average 23 mpg showing on the onboard computer. I drive very softly, not a lot of accelerating, I have about an hour commute to work where I drive about 65 mph and I should be getting the best mileage that the car has off of it and still I'm at 23.2 now. It's been about a month since I got it and I'm starting to worry it's an issue with the car.

I'm going to take it in for it's routine maintenance, maybe a full tune up. But I was just wondering if you guys had any ideas on what I could do. I already used an engine cleaner, use top tier and highest octane fuel, and checked the tire pressure.

I happened to check mine yesterday, 2012 JCW and its been used mostly around town recently and some short journeys, 39.6 mpg, very pleased with that.

Have you reset the onboard computer & tried it to see what mpg you are getting, if its not been reset for a long time it takes a while for them to change.
The bypass valve maybe stuck shut or tied shut, I would make sure the place you take it for its routine maintenance has good knowledge of the supercharged mini.
I travel half an hour to work & mine ranges between 24 to 25mpg although I have a few mods fitted.
I would think if you are travelling at 65mph most of your journey you should be seeing mpg in the 30's

OBC figures can be inaccurate. Have you manually calculated your MPG?

You should average at least 30 MPG driving at 65 MPH.

I reset mine the other day, and it's back after several hundred miles to 33.9 including an uphill 5th gear returning just 8mpg and at over 110 in off road places and mixed urban and dual carriageway stuff. it was 31 before reset, and I'd left it for some time. This car will show on the instant display a steady 24 up a mile long hill at 50 in 5th, and on another similar hill at 5k rpm in 5th it will show as low as 8 at a particular point haha, I suspect something needs looking at on yours. The displays aren't that far wrong imo.
