My first question here, ive got a r50 2002 project car I'm doing up with my son, we got one of those dash cams that go over the rear mirror that has a reverse cam given to us by a family member who thought it was too complicated to fit . It came with a cig power socket plug and bugger that I'm not using that ugly thing so as it runs from a 5v mini USB I've just hardwired it and it's working fine. My question is tho, the rear camera requires you to splice into the reverse light. I've done this a few times on other cars but 9/10 the reverse light is in the rear light clusters. The R50 mini cooper has a single light in the rear bumper.

I've had a poke about behind the rear clusters and sods law my multi meter has died, money is a bit tight as it's costing me a bomb to get to hospital 5 days a week for chemo so either I wait until I get paid or one of you kind gents or ladies know which wire powers the reverse light when the car is put into reverse.

Its a 2002 mini cooper 1.6

Or if someone knows where I can find a multimeter for a few quid I could prob figure it out myself . I bought the car partly to get me to hospital and partly as a project me and my son can do up together while I'm still physically able to work on the car myself. Then when he passes his test, the car is his.

The car seems in pretty good shape apart from rust considering its age, its actually a year older than my boy 😂

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks 👍🏻😁

I think all you need to do is to find the BLUE/GREEN wire coming out of the reversing light switch to the light.
Splice into that for the 12V feed to the camera.

Thanks both, I'll be giving it a go tomorrow, I found a cheap multimeter so hopefully I'll get this thing up and running 👍🏻👍🏻

I figured out the feed from the fuse box is a constant 12v in the end which made sense tbh.. so the reverse camera constantly was on. I did think if I can't get this sorted by splicing into the reverse light I'd fit a switch to manually turn off the reverse camera. But I'd rather it just come on with it in reverse gear.

I've just fitted some reversing sensors which are powered from the reversing light as well. You can access the wire behind the righthand side panel in the boot. I can't remember what colour it was but there is only five or six wires to probe.
