This one will have the five stud alloys as it will borrow bits of the underpinnings from the BMW X3 - which has a five stud wheel pattern

It's going to be built in Austria in the same factory as the X3, so is bound to borrow more than a component or two

They do it all the time, make up photos and make up words to go with them about any "interesting" upcoming model that will sell copy.

With 2 doors each side, and 2 doors at the back, will this make the MINI Crossman the first 6-door car? If so, won't that be a marketing person's dream?

MINI Salesman: "And how many doors would sir like on his new MINI?"

Customer: "What are my choices?"

MINI Salesman: "We can offer you a choice of 2 (the MINI Cabrio), 3 (the MINI), 5 (the MINI Clubman) or 6 (the MINI Crossman)"

Sorry, just announced, new model, to be called the "MINI Clubless". Will be based on the Clubman, but minus the Club door.

Happy now, Paul??

I think the X3 line is moving to Spartanburg and the the X1/Crossman one will take its place. (I'm assuming that the two will be identical mechanically but with different bodies going down the line at the same time - in the same way that Cowley handles Ones/Convertibles/Clubmen at the same time as R56s.)

But ... ?

(Minor point - the Convertible isn't mechanically similar to the One/Cooper/Clubman.....)

But otherwise, I'd love to know which directions BMW intends to take the MINI brand in the future. Will there be a stripped down variant like a Mini Moke? There's no MINI pickup yet? (except for those Red Bull conversions). Or a MINI Van? (Clubman with less doors and less glass). And what about a MINI that gets back into the small affordable car niche that's now occupied by things like the Toyota Aygo and some other microcars coming along? And not forgetting a hybrid model?

Or you could even brick them up from the inside for added strength and protection for during a tornado... I hear the Midlands occasionally get those blowing through.
