i'm sure it'll be a big hit but i'm not fond of these pretend off-roaders. it has 4x4 but no real off roading potential? how is this different to the awful VW Polo Dune or Rover Streetwise?

lets just hope the 4wd technology gets put to better use in the standard Coupe or Cabby

I got followed today by some pumped-up Hyundai Getz - so there's clearly a demand for pseudo-macho cars! Good news is that MINI will make a decent job of it. But IMHO, for it to be a real success, it may need to be priced right (and it's being built in Euroland? ) and to have 4 usable doors (sorry to go back to the Club Door issue).

And will it need a power plant with a bit more grunt than the current petrol and diesel motors (S version excluded)?

Ian

I joined this forum with the sole intention of finding out more about the Crossman. As a large SUV owner who drives around in it 99% of the time with just a 42 lb English Staffordshire Bull Terrier and nothing in the back(and starting to feel a little guilty about it) you can be sure I'll be the first in my area to have a Crossman. Some people like myself do actually live in areas that all wheel drive is sometimes a necessity, mostly because of the snow.

Lightbulb Something to wet your appetite...

Whilst we're waiting for some official off-roading footage of the new Crossman, I thought I'd wet your appetite with some videos of off-roading MINIs I found on YouTube.
First, let's have a look at how it's done - old school (actually, I'm not sure if this is a genuine classic or not... or even if it was a classic at some point in time ):

Next, let's look at how some enthusiasts (is this anyone on here? ) attempt it with varying degrees of sucess ():

And finally, this is probably most akin to the much anticipated Crossman behaviour...

If anyone finds any videos of the real Crossman doing any testing, do make sure you post them up.

All the best,
Andrew.

I agree. Winters can be rough. Sharing rides another way to go.

With regards to winter driving, I wonder about the suspension suitability to driving in Canadian winters.

I'm looking forward to more news on the Crossman, since I've decided it will be my next vehicle. I think it will be a great addition to the Mini lineup.

As long as they have 4 "proper" doors!

And now AutoExcess say that it will be previewed at the Paris Motor show this autumn:

So that means BEFORE the R57?
